When John Wu first ran for City Council, his commitment was straightforward: make San Gabriel financially stronger, safer, better maintained, and better prepared for the future. Here is the record behind that promise.
From the day John joined the City Council, fiscal responsibility has been one of his highest priorities.
During his first term, San Gabriel moved from financial uncertainty to a significantly stronger fiscal position. The City closed FY 2024-25 with a $5.2 million General Fund surplus and approximately $21 million in reserves. San Gabriel was also removed from the California State Auditor’s “high-risk” designation.
These are more than numbers on a financial statement. Financial strength gives a city choices.
It allows us to invest in public safety, repair streets, improve parks and infrastructure, provide services, prepare for emergencies, and plan for the future without unnecessarily burdening our residents.
We worked hard to restore that foundation. Now we must protect it.
John made improving San Gabriel’s aging infrastructure a priority because residents should be able to see and feel the results of responsible government in their everyday lives.
Through continued investment in street improvements, San Gabriel’s Pavement Condition Index reached 85, placing our streets among the strongest in the region.
He also supported the advancement of a $5 million fiber-optic modernization project connecting City facilities and traffic signals.
Some infrastructure is visible. Some of the most important infrastructure is not.
This investment will strengthen connectivity, traffic management, safety, efficiency, and San Gabriel’s ability to become a smarter and better-connected city.
There is no responsibility of local government more fundamental than keeping people safe.
John has consistently supported investments in the resources, technology, and personnel that help our Police and Fire Departments protect our community effectively.
In 2024, San Gabriel’s violent crime rate was 48% below the national average, while the city also achieved zero traffic fatalities — important measures of our continuing commitment to a safer community
Public safety will never be something I consider finished.
As the challenges facing our communities evolve, our ability to respond must evolve with them. John will continue supporting our first responders and making public safety a top priority.
Stronger finances, better streets, modernized infrastructure, and continued investment in public safety — this is the record John Wu is asking San Gabriel to build upon for a second term.
But he is not running for re-election to celebrate what has already been done. He is running because there is more to do.
